Perception is the nervous system of our team. Just as a living organism relies on its senses to understand where it is and what surrounds it, our vehicles rely on the sensors and cameras we integrate and maintain. These allow them to orient themselves in space, detect activity around them and move on their own. Our work goes beyond the hardware. We also write the software that interfaces with the sensors and cameras we use, so that raw data is turned into information the rest of the system can understand and act on. This is what closes the gap between a device that simply records the world and a vehicle that comprehends it. Thanks to this work, Chucao, Caleuche and Cuero can move autonomously and reliably in complex spaces with obstacles. Reliability matters as much as autonomy for us: a vehicle that perceives well in ideal conditions is not enough, so we build systems that hold up when the environment stops being ideal.
